The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has stated that former Dome-Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo, did not vote for him during the election of the Speaker of Parliament.
Speaking when the family of Apostle Kwadwo Safo paid a courtesy call on him at his office on Monday, October 13, 2025, the Speaker of Parliament dismissed the long-held speculations and publicly cleared the former lawmaker of any wrongdoing in the election.
According to him, some people had accused Adwoa Safo of voting for him, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), despite being a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during her time in Parliament.
He explained that his close personal relationship with Adwoa Safo might have led many to assume she defied her party during the historic Speaker of Parliament election.
“I call her my daughter because when I used to come here, she was a small girl…So, I started calling her my daughter before she joined politics and came to Parliament, and she remained my daughter. But we belong to different political traditions.

“So, because she is my daughter and we love each other, even when I was contesting to be Speaker, people thought she voted for me. I want to assure all of you that she didn’t vote for me. That was a false accusation, and she suffered the consequences,” he stated.
Alban Bagbin further added that; “She voted for the position of her party, not for me. I’m using this opportunity to dispel that because it’s still lingering, and people are still using it against her. I know those who voted for me. I have been in this system for long and I know the business of politics, so, I know who voted for me.”
