The 2025 Call to the Bar ceremony witnessed several memorable and groundbreaking moments as 824 lawyers were inducted.
The event which was held at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) on October 10, 2025, made headlines over the enrolment of several well-known personalities and notable figures.

Among them were some chiefs who were also called to the Bar, marking a new chapter for traditional leaders in the country.
Asides that, their presence also marked a pivotal moment in the evolution of Ghana’s legal and cultural landscape.
Here are some chiefs who were called to the bar this year:

Nai Atopi Kwashie Abbey VII
The Chief of Kwashie Abbey and Mpoahene of the Awutu Traditional Area, Nai Atopi Kwashie Abbey VII, born Michael Larbi, was among several other chiefs who made their traditional councils and communities proud due to their new accomplishments.

Obrempon Hima Dekyi XIV
The Paramount Chief of the Upper Dixcove Traditional Area and Overlord of Dixcove, Obrempon Hima Dekyi XIV, also achieved a historic milestone in the Western Region by becoming the first and only paramount chief from the region to be called to the Ghana Bar.
Born Eric Owusu, he has spent a total of 10 years on the stool as the Paramount Chief of the Upper Dixcove Traditional Area and Overlord of Dixcove.

Nana Agyei Kokoo Takyifri Beyeeman
The Paramount Chief of Tuobodom, Nana Agyei Kokoo Takyifri Beyeeman was also called to the Ghana Bar.

Though not the country’s first, this Call to the Bar ceremony highlights a powerful movement.
Traditional institutions are actively pursuing modern legal frameworks to strengthen their local governance, ensuring they can deliver the necessary impact within their communities.
