Police in the Eastern Region have arrested one Daniel Kwame Yeboah in connection with the death of a 60-year-old woman, Ama Fresh, who was accidentally shot during a funeral at Okra Kwadwo in the Okere District.
According to police reports, the suspect, a member of the security detail of the Chief of Amanokrom, fired a musket as part of the traditional display when the chief arrived at the funeral grounds to pay homage. The shot, however, struck the victim, who was among the mourners at the event.
Ama Fresh was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. Her body has since been deposited at the hospital’s morgue for autopsy.
The Eastern Regional Operations Commander and Officer apprehended the suspect, who is currently in police custody, assisting with investigations.
Confirming the incident, the Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Ebenezer Tetteh, urged individuals who handle firearms during funerals and festivals to exercise extreme caution to prevent such tragic accidents.
