CalBank PLC, in partnership with its 2024/25 national service personnel, has inaugurated a newly constructed two-classroom block for the Asuom M.A. Basic School in the Ga South District in the Greater Accra Region.
The facility, which cost about GH¢200,000 comes with modern amenities including whiteboards, LED lighting and switches, replacing the school’s previously deteriorated structures to improve teaching and learning for more than 200 pupils.
The initiative formed part of the bank’s longstanding tradition of instilling community responsibility in its national service personnel, who contributed a portion of their monthly income to fund such projects.
It also reflected the bank’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) pillars of Education, Health and Philanthropy.
Good cause
At the commissioning ceremony, the Deputy Managing Director of CalBank, Johnson Oware, said the project reflected the bank’s core values of responsibility, effectiveness and decisiveness.
“At CalBank, we believe that true development thrives when rooted in mutual respect and partnerships”, he said.
He commended the 122 national service personnel for their efforts, describing their sacrifice as a true demonstration of leadership and service.
“At CalBank, we believe in nurturing responsible citizens. This initiative not only impacts the lives of young pupils but also teaches our service personnel the importance of giving back to society.
I commend their sacrifice and urge the teachers and pupils to maintain this facility for generations to benefit,” he said.
Mr Oware also praised the teachers for their participation in the process and encouraged the school and the community to ensure regular maintenance of the block.
Project Consultant and Contractor, Delali Adiamah, also commended the initiative, affirming the company’s commitment to society.
“Recognising the sacrifice of the national service personnel, we waived most of our charges to support this noble cause.
We are proud to have partnered CalBank to bring this project to life,” he added.
He expressed gratitude to the chiefs and traditional leaders of the community for their support and urged pupils to take full advantage of the facility to secure a brighter future.
“We are grateful that you opened your doors to us and for your continued commitment to education and progress”.

The Headmistress of the school, Yaa Kusi-Ameyaa, commended CalBank and the service personnel, assuring them that the facility would be well-maintained.
“We are deeply grateful for this invaluable support.
This facility would go a long way in creating a conducive learning environment, and we assure you it will be well-maintained and put to good use,” Ms Kusi-Ameyaa stated.
