Obrempon Hima Dekyi XIV’s call to the Ghana Bar makes it a first in the Western Region
The Paramount Chief of the Upper Dixcove Traditional Area and Overlord of Dixcove, Obrempon Hima Dekyi XIV, has shared the reasons behind his decision to become a lawyer.
Speaking exclusively to GhanaWeb on Friday, October 10, 2025, Obrempon Hima Dekyi XIV said he recognised the challenges facing the Western Regional House of Chiefs after he joined it at age 26.
He added that the challenges, mostly litigation issues and chieftaincy disputes, were often settled with external help through lawyers.
Therefore, he said he was inspired to pursue law to help assist in resolving such pressing matters.
“I joined the Western Regional House of Chiefs at age 26 and that was a very young age. I am almost 11 years into the institution. When I entered, I realised that there were lots of litigation and chieftaincy disputes that came to the House and it required procedural processes. Sometimes, we sit on these matters and we need directions from lawyers to be guiding us to proceed on how to give verdict on these matters.
“So, I said it will be appropriate if I gained the knowledge from the law to help speed up litigation processes or adjudication of chieftaincy disputes in the House and that was one of the motivations that drove me,” he stated.
