Following the recent 2025 Ghana School of Law graduation, where approximately 824 new lawyers were called to the Bar, the names of certain universities have also emerged in discussions for having the highest number of alumni who were the best graduating students.
A report cited by GhanaWeb and sourced from the Ghana School of Law on October 10, 2025, details the number of times alumni from some universities in the country have received the John Mensah Sarbah Memorial Prize since 2012.
In the report, alumni of the faculty of law at KNUST have won more of the John Mensah Sarbah Memorial Prize, followed by GIMPA, UG, and others.
This article will explore how often KNUST alumni have won the best overall student awards and the years in which these milestones were achieved since 2012.
KNUST
Since 2012, alumni from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology have bagged the majority of the awards.
Latifa Teiya Fuseini named 2025 overall best Ghana School of Law graduate
From 2013 to 2016, four alumni consecutively won the award, with Hargar Addo (2013) becoming the first individual to bag the prestigious prize.
The names of the other individuals from KNUST include Nada Belinda Aidoo (2014), Grace Esi Sackey (2015), Emmanuel Kyei (2016), Kezia Owusu Ansah (2019), Samuel Pinaman Adomako (2021), Ebenezer Addai Osei (2023), Waana-Ang, Martin (2024), and the recent awardee Latifa Teiya Fuseini (2025).
GIMPA
Following KNUST, GIMPA has recorded the second-highest wins of the amazing prize.
From 2017 to 2018, the university alumni bagged the award two consecutive times.
Isaac Danso Agyiri in 2017 won the award, followed by Jaminie Janine Agovi (2018),
Also, alumni from the University of Ghana, the University of Cape Coast, and the University of London have all won the award once.
In 2012, Kwesi Austin from the University of London became the first university to win the award, while in 2020 Emmanuel Yeboah Gyan from UG bagged the accolade, and Sabina Sabia Bolsong from UCC won it in 2022.
