MP for Jomoro and Deputy Minister of Transport, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has recounted how her father was able to survive with all 16 women he settled with.

In an interview with Captain Smart on Onua TV, shared on TikTok on October 9, 2025, Dorcas Affo-Toffey revealed that her father had high regard for women and strongly disapproved of secret relationships outside marriage.

She explained that her father was a wealthy man and wasn’t hesitant to settle down with any woman he found interesting.

According to Dorcas Affo-Toffey, despite her father’s numerous wives, he had 26 children and was able to cohabitate with them peacefully.

“My father got married to 16 wives, and we are 26 children. He didn’t give birth to a lot of children. My father didn’t like the idea of having an affair outside marriage.

“He was rich, so immediately he saw you and was interested in you, he would go ahead and marry you. That was how he settled down with my mother. He just informed my grandparents that he was interested in my mother, and that was how he married her,” she said.

Affo-Toffey further recounted how she became the only educated female among the 26 siblings.

According to the Jomoro MP, her father disliked the idea of educating the girl child due to the narrative that the only benefit of a woman is marriage, adding that it took the intervention and firm decision of her mother to get her through school.

“Among all the girls, I am the only educated one. He never believed in educating girls, but the male children are well educated. He didn’t mind going for the extra education of the male child. But my mother stood her ground, risking her marriage for my education.

“She actually stood her ground on divorcing my father for my education. When I heard that story, I decided to make her proud, so I stayed in school and made sure of becoming who I am today,” she added.
