UDS receives heroic welcome in Tamale after FISU World Cup victory

The University for Development Studies (UDS) has received a heroic welcome in Tamale following its historic victory at the FISU University World Cup Football Tournament held in Dalian, China.

UDS lifted the prestigious trophy, becoming World Champions — a first for Ghana and Africa — after an impressive performance that captured global attention.

In anticipation of their arrival, the university’s management released a statement announcing the cancellation of lectures and all academic activities on Thursday, October 9, 2025, to allow the university community to fully participate in welcoming the victorious team.

“The University Community is hereby informed that all lectures scheduled for Thursday, October 9, 2025, have been cancelled. This is to enable members of the University Community to take an active part in the activities planned to welcome our gallant Men’s Football Team back home from the 2025 World University Cup Football Tournament,” the memo stated.

Students, lecturers, and residents of Tamale thronged the Tamale International Airport to receive the team.

A colourful float procession led the players through the principal streets of the city to the UDS campus, amid singing, drumming, and dancing, as the region celebrated the university’s global triumph.
