Axim (W/R), Oct 08, GNA-Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs) in the Nzema-East Municipality heaved a sigh of relief when the Assembly, with office of the Member of Parliament (MP), presented assorted items and cheques as livelihood empowerment support to them.

The items are, 25 freezers, seven fufu pounding machines, sewing machines, roofing sheets and cheques for money form part of their share of the Common Fund.

Presenting the items in Axim, Mr Herbert Kuah-Dickson, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Nzema-East said as part of the resetting agenda of President John Dramani Mahama, the District Assembly’s Common Fund had seen a monumental increase compared to last year.

He said of the three per cent disability share of the common fund, GHc94,000.00 came in the first quarter bringing the total of the first and second quarters to GHc188,000.00.

The MCE advised the Beneficiaries to use the items to their benefits but not sell them because they suggested the items for the Assembly to acquire for them.

Mr Kuah-Dickson said the second distribution would be done before the year draws to a close to cover all disabled persons in the entire constituency.

The MCE said what the Assembly received for the disabled would be made available to them and asked them to repose their confidence in the leadership of the Assembly.

He said the Assembly would follow up with a comprehensive database to capture all disabled persons in the Nzema-East Municipality for equitable distribution of resources.

Mr Arko-Nokoe assured the beneficiaries of government’s readiness to improve upon their living conditions.
