Ghana has renewed its pledge to protect refugees and champion durable solutions on the global stage.
This came on Monday, October 6, 2025, when the Minister for the Interior,Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, addressed the 76th Annual Plenary Session of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Executive Committee of the High Commissioner’s Programme in Geneva.

In his address, the Minister underscored Ghana’s unwavering commitment to refugee protection, highlighting the country’s progress in collaborating with countries of origin to ensure the effective implementation of all aspects of durable solutions, including their legal dimensions.

He stressed that Ghana remains resolute in upholding the ideals of the Global Compact for Refugees (GCR), outlining the nation’s contributions to addressing the global refugee crisis.

Muntaka announced that Ghana is working with the UNHCR to implement the Ghana Refugee Agribusiness Sustainability Programme (GRASP), a flagship initiative designed to create sustainable livelihood opportunities for refugees and host communities.
He added that Ghana has also partnered with neighbouring countries to develop a sub-regional strategy aimed at reinforcing national security while ensuring refugee protection and facilitating durable solutions.

The Minister took the opportunity to commend the outgoing UNHCR High Commissioner, Mr. Filippo Grandi, for his exemplary leadership and tireless efforts in advancing the protection and rights of refugees worldwide.
