NPP Supporter Faces Deportation From Qatar After Threatening To Shoot Mahama In Viral Video

A Ghanaian man believed to be a staunch supporter of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is facing possible deportation from Qatar after a disturbing video surfaced online showing him making violent threats against former President John Dramani Mahama. The video, which quickly went viral on social media, has sparked outrage among Ghanaians both at home and abroad, prompting swift reactions from authorities.

In the footage, the man — whose identity is yet to be officially disclosed — was seen wearing an NPP-branded shirt while brandishing what appeared to be a toy gun, issuing threats to “shoot” the former president if he ever returned to power. The video has since been condemned as reckless, dangerous, and unbecoming of a Ghanaian living abroad.

Reports from Doha indicate that Qatari security officials have taken the matter seriously, as such threats violate both local and international laws on violence and extremism. Sources close to the Ghanaian community in Qatar confirmed that the man has been arrested for questioning and could face deportation for breaching the country’s strict public order and conduct regulations.

Meanwhile, Ghana’s Embassy in Qatar is said to have been notified of the incident and is cooperating with Qatari authorities to ensure the matter is handled appropriately. Officials from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have also condemned the act, describing it as a clear example of how political fanaticism can spiral out of control. “This is not just about Mahama; this is about the safety and image of Ghana. We must all reject such toxic behavior,” an NDC spokesperson stated.

On the other hand, several NPP members have distanced the party from the man’s actions, stressing that his comments were made in his personal capacity and do not reflect the values of the ruling party. They emphasized that the NPP promotes peace, tolerance, and democratic engagement — not violence.

Political analysts have warned that the incident could tarnish Ghana’s reputation internationally if not addressed firmly. They urged the government and security agencies to take decisive action against any individual, regardless of political affiliation, who promotes violence or hate speech.

As investigations continue, the fate of the NPP supporter hangs in the balance, with deportation appearing increasingly likely. The case serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers of political extremism and the importance of responsible speech in the digital age.
