Ho fire station trains NCA, NPA Staff in emergency Preparedness

By Frank Kwame Abbor

Ho, Oct. 07, GNA – The Ho Municipal Fire Station of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has conducted a fire simulation exercise at the National Communications Authority (NCA) Tower, to enhance emergency response and safety awareness among their staff and those of the National Petroleum Authority.

The exercise, led by Mr Seth Tay, the Divisional Officer Grade II (DOII), focused on evacuation procedures, practical firefighting techniques, and the proper use of fire extinguishers during emergencies.

The simulation formed part of the GNFS’s ongoing public safety campaign, aimed at promoting fire prevention and preparedness across workplaces in the Volta Region.

Mr Tay said the exercise was designed to test the readiness of staff to respond appropriately in the event of a fire outbreak.

“We want to ensure that workers are equipped with the knowledge and skills to protect lives and property. Fire safety is a shared responsibility, and training like this helps reduce panic and confusion during real incidents,” he stated.

He encouraged corporate institutions to regularly organise such drills to strengthen workplace safety measures and emergency coordination systems.

During the exercise, the staff were taken through step-by-step evacuation procedures, demonstration of alarm activation, and the proper handling of fire extinguishers and hoses.

Participants were also educated on identifying fire hazards, maintaining clear exit routes, and responding quickly to alarms to minimize casualties and property loss.

Ms Diana Adom, a staff member of the NCA, commended the Ghana National Fire Service for the practical session, describing it as “an eye-opener that brings safety lessons to life.”

“We now understand how to act swiftly during a fire emergency instead of panicking. This training has really boosted our confidence,” she said.

Other participants expressed appreciation for the hands-on experience and pledged to share the knowledge gained with other colleagues, to enhance overall workplace safety.

Mr Tay said the GNFS would continue to partner institutions in the region to build safety consciousness and ensure compliance with fire safety standards.

He reiterated the Station’s commitment towards maintaining regular fire education and drills, as part of its preventive strategy to protect lives and property in the municipality.
