Edward Asare leads panel on AI and Communication at IPR knowledge sharing summit

Communications professional Edward Asare moderated a high-level discussion on “AI for Impact in Africa – The Communication Need” during the 2025 Public Relations Knowledge Sharing Summit organized by the Institute of Public Relations (IPR) Ghana at the Accra International Conference Center.

The session examined how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be applied to improve communication, education, and data management across Africa.

Panelists included Dr. Charles Roland Haruna of the University of Cape Coast, Dr. Amos Oppong, Co-founder and CEO of DapsCnect, Samuel Ato Afful, Marketing Communications Consultant, and Patience Nyange, Spokesperson at the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).

Dr. Haruna called for the integration of AI into education to build students’ capacity in digital and analytical skills relevant to today’s communication environment.

Dr. Oppong stressed that reliable data is essential for effective communication and explained how AI can help reduce errors and strengthen trust in information systems across Africa.

Mr. Afful encouraged communication professionals to train AI tools to suit their workflow and enhance productivity without losing authenticity in their messaging.

Ms. Nyange focused on mentorship and policy, highlighting the importance of ethical frameworks and inclusive access to AI knowledge, especially for young communicators.

Edward Asare expressed appreciation to IPR Ghana for the opportunity to moderate the session, noting the positive feedback received from participants. He described the discussion as a timely contribution to understanding how AI can support effective communication and development efforts on the continent.

The 2025 IPR Knowledge Sharing Summit brought together practitioners, academics, and policymakers to share insights on emerging trends shaping public relations and communication practice in Ghana and across Africa.
