A lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba, Dr Ekpor Anyimah-Ackah, has apologised to President John Dramani Mahama and the Executive Director of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Professor Nana Ama Klutse, following comments he made regarding their use of the term “dechemicalisation” during televised discussions on efforts to restore Ghana’s polluted water bodies.
Speaking on Newsfile on Joy News on Saturday, October 6, 2025, he criticised the EPA boss and the president for their choice of terminology, which he claimed was scientifically inaccurate.
Galamsey’s impact on the future worries agriculture minister
“I want to apologise to the President of the Republic, His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama. I also want to salute his able minister (The lands and natural resources minister), I also want to salute Prof here and to say that she is a beloved Professor and we have respect for the work she is doing,” he remarked.
State of emergency demands grow as more groups pile pressure over galamsey
He stated that his initial comments were not meant to undermine the President Mahama or the EPA leadership.
“In fact, if she were not doing well, would I even bother to offer feedback and input to support her to make the right decisions for all of us?” he added.
Meanwhile, the government has declared all water bodies and forest reserves as security zones in the latest measure to fight illegal mining otherwise known as “galamsey”.
The move forms part of intensified actions to secure the country’s environment and critical natural resources, mainly rivers and forest reserves, which have been polluted by illegal mining activities.
