Former Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has criticised recent arrests carried out by state security agencies following reports by Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL).
His remarks come after the Economic and Organised Office (EOCO) and the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) detained several prominent figures within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Point of View with Bernard Avle on Monday, October 6, 2025, Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu urged President John Dramani Mahama to consider human rights concerns in his next State of the Nation Address(SoNA).
“The way people are using OSP to arrest people. ORAL what they did, NIB and EOCO to arrest people with impunity. Where are we going to? In the meantime, all this while, to the best of my knowledge, they have not been able to file charges and initiate proceedings against anyone in court.”
He expressed concern over the arrest of leading NPP members, including Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Wontumi), Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe (Abronye), and some former ministers, who he said are being required to report weekly to authorities.
“Where are we heading as a nation? I’m not happy with that. The arrest of Wontumi, Abronye, and former ministers, who are required to report every week,” he said.
He added: “It’s certainly not the best of circumstances. If Wontumi has done anything wrong, you go to him. I understand they have confiscated 15 vehicles. These are matters all of us should be concerned about.”
