Charles Owiredu and Bridget Otoo
Media personality cum Presidential Staffer, Bridget Otoo has taken a swipe at the Member of Parliament for Abirem, Charles Owiredu, over a post he made concerning President Mahama’s decision to declare a state of emergency over galamsey.
Recently, during his engagement with Civil Society Organisations on October 3, 2025, President Mahama had stated that he would only declare a state of emergency on the galamsey crisis upon recommendation by the National Security Council.
Reacting to this, Charles Owiredu, in a post on X, shared a list of the members of the council made up of some cabinet ministers and director of security services.
However, Bridget Otoo, in reply to Owiredu’s post, stated that the MP has no mandate or moral standing to advise President John Mahama, especially given what she described as his past silence during the Nana Akufo-Addo administration.

She recalled how Owiredu had previously labelled aspects of Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s report as “hearsay” during the previous government, implying inconsistency in his approach.
“Without overstating the obvious, you had the opportunity and you failed to use your voice under Nana Addo. You called Prof. Frimpong Boateng’s report “hearsay,” she said.
She warned that under Mahama, criticisms and advice are welcomed, but that does not mean everyone is fit to offer them.
“So you are in no capacity to advice him on what to do. and yes maybe under Nana Addo, he didn’t listen to his advisors cos he appointed them, but this is John Mahama, who welcomes and takes his harshest critics very seriously. Takes expert opinion seriously! He would act when all other options have been exhausted so sit this one out!” she wrote.
