Gov’t commits GH₵46m to complete KNUST Teaching Hospital Project

The government has announced a commitment of GHC46 million towards the completion of the stalled teaching hospital project at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

Speaking at a grand durbar marking the climax of the School of Medical Sciences’ 50th anniversary, under the theme: “A glance at the past, a glimpse into the future,” Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu indicated that under the government’s reset agenda, the government has dedicated 46 million Ghana Cedis for the completion of the Teaching Hospital

“I’m happy to announce that under our reset agenda, we are committing 46 million Ghana cedis for the completion of the Teaching Hospital. Indeed, in a meeting with the Regional Minister this morning, I reached out to the contractor executing the civil work, Kwanzaa, and asked them to submit their IPCs and return to site within the next 30 days for the completion of the civil work.” he stated

He further disclosed that funds would also be allocated for equipping the hospital and constructing a multi-purpose lecture theatre for the School of Medical Sciences.

“President Mahama has also requested me through the GETFund to additionally commit $38 million for the equipping of the Teaching Hospital. That will be part of the 2025 to 2026 formula of the GETFund.

“Into our 2027 formula, we will do two multi-purpose lecture theatres for you at 10 million US dollars”

The 71-acre facility will house a cardiothoracic and neurosurgical centre, diagnostic and laboratory units, morgue, administration and Out-Patient Department blocks, wards, a security post, effluent chambers, and a laundry unit, among other amenities.
