Bibiani GoldStars maintained their perfect start to the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season with a narrow 1-0 victory over Swedru All Blacks at the Swedru Sports Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
A solitary strike from forward Michael Nkoah just two minutes into the second half was enough to hand the defending champions all three points in a closely contested Matchday 4 encounter.
The newly promoted All Blacks, buoyed by their home crowd, started brightly and dominated possession throughout the opening half.
They created several promising openings but were undone by poor finishing and GoldStars’ defensive discipline, led by experienced defender Vincent Atingah.
GoldStars, who absorbed the early pressure, capitalised on a moment of brilliance shortly after the restart.
Nkoah latched onto a through ball, showed great composure inside the box, and slotted home past the onrushing goalkeeper to break the deadlock.
All Blacks responded with renewed urgency and almost levelled late on when substitute Hakim Mohammed saw his effort cannon off the woodwork in stoppage time.
Earlier, Samuel Atta Kumi had come agonisingly close to doubling GoldStars’ lead but his close-range strike struck the upright.
Despite a valiant effort from the hosts, GoldStars’ experience and efficiency proved decisive as they claimed their second successive win of the campaign.
