President John Dramani Mahama’s engagement with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) on illegal mining (galamsey) is currently underway.

The meeting is set to provide a platform for the President and CSOs to deliberate, discuss, and propose ways to support and strengthen the government’s fight against the menace.

Secretary to the President, Dr Callistus Mahama, in a letter to the CSOs, described the dialogue as a platform for “frank and constructive discussions” to harness collective expertise and perspectives.

“This engagement aims to provide a platform for frank and constructive dialogue between the Government and civil society on the menace of illegal mining, with a view to harnessing collective expertise, perspectives, and solutions to address this national challenge,” he stated.

The engagement comes at a time when illegal galamsey continues to spark widespread public concern over the destruction of water bodies, farmlands, and forest reserves, amid calls for stronger government action.
