The Majority in Parliament has rejected calls from the Minority for the resignation of the Minister of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Sam Nartey George, describing them as unfounded and politically motivated.

At a press conference in Accra on Friday, October 3, 2025, a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Communication, Sulemana Adama, said the allegations against the Minister over his handling of MultiChoice Ghana were baseless and politically driven.

Adama argued that the Minister had made remarkable progress in less than a year in office and should be encouraged rather than pressured to step aside.

He cited previous instances where public officials remained in office despite major controversies, questioning why Sam George was being singled out.

“The former Minister of Communication signed opaque deals but was never asked to resign. A whole President put his presidency on the line to fight galamsey and failed but did not resign. How then do you demand the resignation of a Minister who has achieved so much in just over eight months?” Adama asked.

The Minority had earlier accused the Minister of misleading Ghanaians, failing to deliver a promised 30% reduction in DStv subscription fees, and presenting MultiChoice promotional offers as government achievements.

They also demanded a refund of levies charged on DStv services and threatened to press the President to remove him from office.

Adama, however, insisted the Minority’s demands ignored the facts on the ground, pointing out that MultiChoice had confirmed its collaboration with the Minister on the ongoing DStv value upgrade.

He noted that the initiative was being implemented in partnership with the government and was under close monitoring.

The controversy arose from conflicting interpretations of a MultiChoice promotional offer, which some critics claimed was not linked to government negotiations.

The company has since admitted to communication lapses on its website and affirmed its alignment with the Minister’s announcement. A review of the rollout is scheduled in three months to measure its impact.
