Police administration investigates interception of suspected Indian hemp at Asesewa

The Ghana Police Service is investigating a case involving a Kia truck with registration number ER-760-23 that was intercepted on the Sekesua road while carrying 36 bags of substances suspected to be narcotics.

Preliminary investigations show that on 30th September 2025, officers from the Eastern Regional Police Headquarters in Koforidua arrested the driver of the truck, which was transporting goods suspected to be narcotics.

A search of the vehicle revealed that, in addition to being partly loaded with sawdust, it contained 36 sacks of dried substances believed to be narcotics.

The truck and its contents were subsequently taken to the Sekesua Police Station. However, the driver and his mate managed to escape, abandoning the vehicle. Police say efforts have been intensified to re-arrest the two suspects.

The impounded truck and the 36 sacks remain in the custody of the Eastern Regional Command. The Police Administration has urged the public to disregard false media reports claiming that the 36 sacks had turned into sawdust.

Meanwhile, the Police Professional Standards Bureau has begun investigations into the case while efforts continue to track down the suspects.
