OKRA Projects and Partners commissions classroom block for Lume-Ahugakope JHS

By Agbaxode Emmanuel

Akatsi (VR), Oct. 2, GNA – OKRA Projects, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) has commissioned a three-unit classroom block for the Lume Ahugakope RC/MA Junior High School in the Akatsi South Municipality to improve academic excellence.

The project, according to the school authorities, would serve as a beacon of hope, opportunity, and progress for the Ghanaian school-going child since most of them studied under difficult conditions over the years.

Mr Cyprus Nii Sackey, Country Director, OKRA Projects, said the block has offices, a toilet facility, and a polytank with partial assistance from community members and Mr Bernard Ahiafor, MP for Akatsi South, who doubles as the first Deputy Speaker of Parliament.

He revealed that the project, which commenced in January and was completed in July this year, was the 50th in Ghana and the eighth in Volta with similar ones at Ave Atiglime, Avevi, Have, and others.

Mr Nii Sackey commended stakeholders for their commitment, especially the communal spirit of the community members, for the timely execution of the project.

He tasked the school’s management committee including the teachers and pupils to ensure a proper maintenance habit of the structure.

Mr Daniel Dagba, the Municipal Chief Executive for Akatsi South who led the commissioning event, thanked Okra for what he described as a ‘beautiful edifice’ to enhance teaching and learning.

He urged parents and teachers to ensure the academic improvement of all pupils as they worked to provide the necessary infrastructure and other relevant educational items.

“Walk your child to school when you can, check the exercise book every evening, and speak life-giving words. When we meet at PTA, come up with ideas, not only complaints,” he said.

Mr Dagba also expressed gratitude to the community elders for their support.

Mr Karim Ayaana Umar, the Director of Education for Akatsi South, in a speech read on his behalf, said the gesture remained an important investment in the future of the young ones, and has since called for collaboration for quality education.

Mr Moses Adade, Headteacher of the school, expressed gratitude to OKRA and to every individual who contributed to the success of the project.

He also appealed for the provision of an ICT lab, a teacher’s bungalow, furniture, and other items to aid their effort in ensuring quality education in the area.

Mr Jacob Nyasorgbor, the Assemblyman for the area, called on the Education Directorate and the Municipal Assembly to continue to assist education in the community with resources.

He commended the teachers for their commitment to the welfare of students.

The school presently has a population of 271 pupils with thirteen teaching staff.
