According to a report by GhanaWeb, the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has provided clarification regarding the party’s 2023 Disciplinary Committee proceedings involving flagbearer aspirant Kennedy Agyapong.
In an interview with Net 2 TV, Kodua explained that Agyapong was summoned by the committee over remarks he made about a “showdown,” which the party deemed inappropriate.
Kodua said he personally contacted Agyapong to address the matter before referring him to the disciplinary panel.
During the committee session, Agyapong was cautioned and reminded of his responsibilities as a party leader, with instructions to refrain from making such statements in the future.
“I personally called him and told him to his face that he didn’t speak well. I informed him I would take him to the disciplinary committee and he acknowledged it. When he appeared before the committee, they cautioned him, reminding him that he is a leader of the party and should not speak in such a manner again,” the NPP General Secretary explained.
Contrasting this account, the Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP, Kwame Baffoe, widely known as Abronye DC, has accused Kodua of withholding the committee’s report.
Abronye claimed that the disciplinary panel had recommended sanctions against Agyapong for alleged actions that were against the party’s interests.
According to Abronye, the report suggested that Agyapong’s continued conduct was detrimental to the party and advised his removal from the NPP.
He further alleged that the former Assin Central MP played a significant role in undermining the party’s reputation.
On his Ohia TV program on September 29, 2025, Abronye raised concerns about Kodua’s handling of the report, questioning why it had not been submitted to the party’s national executives or council.
He expressed frustration over what he described as secrecy surrounding the disciplinary findings.
While Abronye maintains that the report recommended Agyapong’s dismissal, Kodua has insisted that the committee merely issued a caution and reinforced the Assin Central politician’s leadership obligations, without suggesting removal from the party.
