Ho Assembly outlines bold development agenda, tackles key Municipal challenges

By Frank Kwame Abbor

Ho, Oct 2, GNA – The Ho Municipal Assembly has unveiled an ambitious development agenda spanning infrastructure, health, education, agriculture, housing, sanitation, and revenue mobilization to accelerate growth in the Municipality.

The agenda was outlined during the third meeting of the Ninth General Assembly held on September 29 and 30, 2025, at the Assembly Hall in Ho.

Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Stephen Adom, and Ho Central MP, Mr. Richmond Edem Kofi Kpotosu, joined presiding member Mr. Mawunyo Agbe and other assembly members to deliberate on pressing issues.

Mr. Kpotosu urged members to remain focused on fairness and accountability in their decisions, stressing that the assembly’s mandate was to serve the interests of all residents. “We must prioritize projects that deliver tangible benefits to our constituents—roads that are safe, schools that are resourced, and health facilities that are responsive,” he stated.

He called for investments in social solutions, particularly health, education, and youth empowerment. According to him, “We need to establish more health centres, expand vocational training, and design programmes that promote gender equity and support for the vulnerable.”

The MP also highlighted infrastructure deficits as a major concern, citing poor roads, inadequate drainage systems, and housing challenges. “We must commit to comprehensive plans that stimulate local businesses, safeguard public health, and provide safe housing,” he emphasized.

Mr. Adom, MCE, presented a detailed account of ongoing and future projects, including road works, sanitation interventions, market expansion, and housing initiatives. “We have cleared a decade-long refuse dump with 263 trips of waste evacuated equivalent to 2,104 tons. Our oxygen city status will not be compromised,” he assured.

On markets, he announced that the newly established animal market would be expanded from 12.6 to 24 acres to attract investors.

“That enclave is going to receive massive development, so we need a bigger market to meet demand,” he said.

Water supply, however, remains a challenge in the municipality. “Some of our people are still struggling to access potable water. We believe mechanizing the boreholes we are drilling will solve much of the problem,” Mr. Adom noted.

He further disclosed that the long-awaited relocation of butchers to the Sokode abattoir had materialized, though some residents were still slaughtering animals illegally at night. “We will work with the police to enforce the law,” he cautioned.

Touching on housing, the MCE revealed that the Tema Development Corporation (TDC), in partnership with the Ministry of Works and Housing, would soon commence a 200-unit affordable housing project near the Ho Airport area. “We are doing all the groundwork to facilitate this development,” he added.

In agriculture, he pledged support for the government’s policies, including “Feed Ghana,” farm banks, and farmer service centres. “Our farmers will also benefit from agriculture insurance and the reintroduction of fertilizer subsidies,” he assured.

Mr. Adom also highlighted progress in revenue mobilization, reporting that the assembly had achieved 85 per cent of its internal revenue target between January and August 2025. “We projected GHC 4.3 million and collected GHC 3.6 million. But we must do better, especially at our central market,” he stressed.

To address this, he announced plans to deploy National Service personnel to assist in revenue collection. “We will monitor three market days closely and set clear targets for collectors,” he explained.

On the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF), the MCE confirmed prompt disbursements and outlined funded projects, including classroom blocks, nurses’ quarters, mechanized boreholes, a 24-hour economy market at Civic Centre, and scholarships for brilliant but needy students.

The presiding member, Mr. Mawunyo Agbe, commended the assembly members for their dedication. “You have shown leadership in action by staying close to the people and driving development in your electoral areas,” he said.

He disclosed that a regional conference of assembly members would soon be inaugurated to foster collaboration and amplify their voices. “This platform will strengthen unity and create opportunities for shared learning,” he explained.

Mr. Agbe urged members to maintain discipline and order during deliberations while reminding them of their responsibility to shape the future of the municipality. “You are not just representing your areas—you are shaping the destiny of the entire Ho Municipality,” he declared.

The two-day session ended with renewed commitments from both leadership and members to pursue unity, transparency, and effective resource use in driving the municipality’s development agenda.
