Godfred Yeboah Dame is the former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice
The former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, has formally asked that the General Legal Council dismiss a disciplinary complaint filed against him by a private citizen, Daniel Kwame Ofosu-Appiah.
According to a report shared on X by TV3 on October 1, 2025, the former Attorney-General claims that the complaint against him is politically motivated and procedurally flawed.
According to Yeboah Dame, the complaint is not a party to the legal matters cited, adding that the case of the Republic vs Dr Cassiel Ato Forson and two others has suffered no legal injury from the alleged conduct.
“Respectfully, this is in clear breach of the practice and procedure of this Honourable Committee, as proceedings before the General Legal Council are required to be confidential.
Godfred Dame dragged to General Legal Council for alleged misconduct
“The complainant is unconnected to the matters that are the subject of his complaint. He has not shown any nexus with the fact, any injury suffered by him, or any association with any of the parties in the case – Republic. V. Cassiel Ato Forson and 2 Others, whose prosecution led to the subject of his complaint,” he said.
Godfred Dame further noted, “Respectfully, I submit that this Honourable Committee should decline jurisdiction over this complaint regarding acts done by the Attorney General in his official capacity.”
Background
Godfred Yeboah Dame was dragged to the General Legal Council for unprofessional conduct by a private citizen, Daniel Kwame Ofosu-Appiah, in May 2025.
Ofosu-Appiah accused the former Attorney-General of acting unprofessionally in the Republic v Ato Forson and two others.
He argued that Dame violated the principles of the legal profession when he was caught on tape allegedly coercing Richard Jakpa, the 3rd accused in the case, to testify in a particular manner.
About the leaked tape
Richard Jakpa, during the hearing of the case, accused the Attorney General, Godfred Dame, of attempting to collude with him to make a case against then-Minority Leader, Ato Forson.
Jakpa claimed during court proceedings on Thursday, May 23, 2024, that the Attorney General called him at odd hours to get his cooperation.

He made these remarks when Dame accused him in court of protecting Ato Forson, threatening to reveal more if the Attorney General dared him.
At a press conference in Accra on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, the NDC played a 16-minute audio recording of a phone call conversation between Godfred Dame and Richard Jakpa on the day the third accused was supposed to testify in court.
In the recording, Dame is heard urging the third accused to testify in a manner that differs from an explanation given to him (Jakpa).
