Authorities in Burkina Faso have allegedly blocked officials of Ghana’s National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) from reaching Ghanaian refugees displaced by the recent Gbeniyiri conflict.

More than 5,600 people fled to Kpere in Burkina Faso after violent disturbances erupted in the Savannah Region.

According to a report by adomonline.com on October 1, 2025, the team led by the Savannah Regional Director of NADMO, Mahama Zackaria, travelled with relief items to support the affected persons but was denied access.

“We went to Kpere in Burkina Faso, where some of our people ran to, but unfortunately, the Burkinabe authorities didn’t allow us to see the people. Yes, we saw them from a distance, but we couldn’t communicate with them or give them the relief items we carried,” he indicated.

He explained that Burkina Faso’s officials demanded formal engagement between the two governments before any humanitarian support could be delivered.

“They said the Ghana government will have to engage them officially, like they did in the Ivory Coast. Without an official international protocol between the two countries, they would not allow us to engage the people,” he stated.
