President John Dramani Mahama has issued a strong warning to individuals involved in romance scams, stressing that offenders will face extradition and prosecution.

He made the declaration at the launch of Cyber Security Awareness Month in Accra on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, where he underscored government’s determination to clamp down on online fraud in collaboration with international partners.

According to him, Ghana will not shield anyone found culpable, whether Ghanaian or foreign national.

“We’ve been collaborating with all our global partners. Anybody involved in romance scams, whether you are a foreigner or a Ghanaian citizen, we will hand you over to be tried and punished accordingly,” he indicated.

President Mahama explained that protecting citizens and safeguarding Ghana’s international reputation remained key priorities in the fight against cyber fraud.

He further stated that existing extradition treaties will be used to ensure that suspects are returned to the appropriate jurisdictions to stand trial.

“So, we will continue to collaborate with our international partners. When evidence is gathered and it is proven that people are involved in romance scams, using our extradition treaties, we will ship the culprits back,” he said.
