2 suspected military officers arrested for attempted robbery at a mining company in Prestea
Two suspected military personnel have been arrested by police after allegedly attempting to rob a Chinese-owned mining company in Prestea, Western Region, on Sunday, September 28, 2025.
Reports indicate that the suspects, dressed in military uniforms and accompanied by two masked civilians, stormed the mining site in a pickup truck.
They had reportedly rented a brand-new Toyota pickup, registered GN6116-25, for the operation, which has since been confiscated by police.
Three armed robbers jailed 75 years in hard labour
According to security personnel at the mine, the suspects assaulted them and demanded to be taken to the gold room. However, the quick response of the guards, who alerted the Prestea Police, led to the immediate arrest of the suspects.
Two men sentenced to 10 years each for illegal drug possession
A viral video, sighted by GhanaWeb on October 1, 2025, showed the suspects being led into a police pickup.
Meanwhile, the Tarkwa Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into the attempted robbery.
