GB News presenter Nana Akua slammed Sir Keir Starmer’s “ridiculous proposal” to roll out digital ID cards across the UK to tackle illegal working. Last week, the Prime Minister announced that people will not be able to work in the UK without a digital ID, sharing the plans that he hopes will make the country’s borders “more secure.” However, the new scheme has sparked a mixed response from Brits across the country, with several politicians speaking out on the decision.
Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch has branded the scheme a “desperate gimmick,” and the Lib Dems share their fears that it will force people to turn over their private data. Now, the 54-year-old broadcaster has shared her thoughts on the controversial decision, and she certainly didn’t hold back on her evening show.
She began: “As of today, a poll estimated that if an election were called now, Reform UK would win over 300 seats. So instead of introducing ID cards, which aren’t going to work, why not try and follow what Nigel Farage is doing and find out why the electorate finds his plans so interesting and are prepared to vote for him more than you.
At this point, the presenter shared a clip of Nigel Farage slamming the scheme as he stood in front of a Reform UK poster. He fumed, “I do not see a single benefit to the government having a digital ID other than them controlling what we do.”
The cameras then panned back to Nana, who was quick to reiterate her point. She declared, “Sir Keir Starmer has really achieved the incredible.
“He has united Zarah Sultana, Ed Davey, Kemi Badenoch, and Nigel Farage against his ridiculous proposal of ID cards.” It didn’t take long before viewers flocked to X – formerly known as Twitter – to share their thoughts on the upcoming scheme online.
One user congratulated the broadcaster on her stance following her interview with Labour MP Suzy Stride. They wrote: “Watching your debate with Suzy Stride, I can’t believe how hard she’s trying to convince you and us about this digital ID [poop emoji]!
“I loved the way you challenged her and gave that cheeky laugh when she said many people are for it !! These Labour activists [two angry swearing emoji].”
Another pointed out: “What if you get your phone stolen like millions up and down the country, or like me, constantly losing them? What then if you’ve got everything stored on that app? And how would you get it back?”
A third fumed: “That’s because Starmer can’t deal with the real issues and wants the media time taken away over his own rumblings at Number 10.”
