Former Member of Parliament for Bosomefreho, Akwasi Darko Boateng, has accused the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) of using the issue of illegal mining, known as “galamsey,” as a campaign tool to win power, despite knowing they had no real solutions.

“We have all witnessed a sudden surge in the destructive activities of galamsey, a clear case of the government having no political will to fight it,” he claimed.

Speaking to OTEC News reporter Kwame Agyenim Boateng on Monday, Boateng stated that the NDC’s failure to curb galamsey is unsurprising, as the party was desperate to win the election.

He highlighted that the problem has worsened under the current administration, calling for immediate action.

Boateng emphasised the need for a collaborative approach involving all stakeholders, with chiefs playing a central role.

He urged the government to empower chiefs in galamsey-affected areas, allowing them to lead the fight for effective results.
