Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Rashid Tanko Computer, has said that the party is poised to deliver a “heavy defeat” to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming Akwatia by-election.
His comments follow the latest Global Info Analytics poll, which tipped the NDC’s candidate, Bernard Baidoo Bediako, to win with a projected 53% of the vote against the NPP’s Solomon Asumadu, who was projected at 47%.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Friday, August 29, 2025, Mr. Tanko Computer expressed confidence that the NDC’s extensive groundwork in the constituency was resonating with voters.
“We have been in the constituency and we are all over the place and working. I can assure you that we are going to win the election massively come Tuesday,” he said.
He added that the party was committed to consolidating the gains reflected in the poll.
“The projection shows that whatever we are doing is yielding results. We still have a few days more, and we are going to increase our presence in some areas because we want to make sure the good works of the government and the president are being shown to the people — and so far, they are buying into it.”
Mr. Tanko Computer stressed that the NDC would not relent on its efforts saying, “We are not surprised by the turn of events, and we are going to build on that. We will not leave any stone unturned. We will give the NPP a heavy defeat come Tuesday.”
The Akwatia by-election is scheduled for Tuesday, September 2, 2025, following the passing of the constituency’s Member of Parliament, Ernest Kumi, earlier this year.
