Kwesi Botchwey Jnr, aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has said the campaign team will not be complacent despite a new poll that places the former vice president ahead in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer race.
His remarks follow the release of a Global Info Analytics survey on August 21, 2025, which tipped Dr. Bawumia as the frontrunner to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections.
According to the poll, Dr. Bawumia secured 52 percent support among NPP delegates, while his closest contender, former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, polled 17 percent.
Speaking with Sammi Wiafe on Eyewitness News on Friday, August 22, Botchwey Jnr welcomed the findings but stressed that the campaign team is not getting carried away.
He added that the team views the results as a reflection of current grassroots sentiment but will continue to intensify efforts ahead of the party’s presidential primaries.
“We’re not flattered or swollen-headed by this poll by Musah Dankwa and Global Info Analytics. We believe it’s a call to action, it’s positive feedback, and it means we have to work harder to increase the gap. We’re not swollen-headed or flattered. I believe it’s a true reflection of what is happening on the ground. It’s good feedback. When you engage the delegates, they want a winnable candidate,” he said.
Other candidates in the race received lower levels of support. Dr. Bryan Acheampong polled 3%, followed by former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum with 1%. Former General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong, Boakye Agyarko, and Addai Nimo each received less than 1%.
