Bimbilla NDC Zonal executives protest over School Feeding allocation – Citinewsroom – Comprehensive News in Ghana

Zonal constituency executives of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Bimbilla constituency of the Northern Region are protesting the allocation of schools under the School Feeding Programme.

According to the group, the Municipal Chief Executive for Nanumba North, Abdul Somed Hamza Gurundow, had initially assigned schools in their respective zones to them. However, they allege that the slots have since been taken over by individuals from outside the area.

Some Zonal Coordinators who spoke to the media insisted that unless the decision is reversed, they will not permit anyone else to cook in their communities.

The agitation intensified during a meeting where the Northern Regional Coordinator for the School Feeding Programme, John Mahama Cherity, addressed caterers in Bimbilla.

In an interview with Channel One News, some of the NDC zonal executives expressed frustration, claiming they are being sidelined in the programme.

“The issue is that schools were allocated to us according to our zones, but we have now been told we will no longer feed them. We don’t understand why the schools given to us have been taken away. People from Tamale and other areas are rather being brought in to feed schools in Nanumba North.

“Meanwhile, we are all party members who worked hard for the party’s victory, so we also deserve to benefit. No official communication has been given to us. When we spoke to the MCE, he said the matter was beyond him and directed us to the Regional Minister. We have since been calling, but there has been no response,” one of the NDC Zonal Coordinators said.

Another NDC Zonal Constituency Coordinator said, “We have seen other people presenting their appointment letters to the various schools. We were initially informed about the School Feeding Programme, but we have been sidelined. They have failed to give us our appointment letters. We will not allow outsiders to take over the programme in our communities.”

A different coordinator added, “We will not permit anyone from outside to take our slots. We supported the party to win the elections, and we also deserve our share.”

When contacted, the Regional Coordinator for the School Feeding Programme declined to comment.
