Lawyer and historian Nana Obiri Boahen has called out Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs and Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area, over his recent comments about the Golden Stool of the Ashanti people, known as Sika Dwa Kofi.

According to Obiri Boahen, commentary surrounding the Golden Stool must be approached with caution since it forms a significant part of Ashanti history.

Although he did not directly address whether the stool is welded, as the Dormaahene has claimed, Obiri Boahen emphasised that its relevance should not be undermined.

Speaking in an interview on Wontumi TV on August 16, 2025, he said, “So, the Golden Stool, please, with due respect, don’t underrate the potency of the Golden Stool. Under no circumstances should you speak against it. It is like you are not a Jew but underrating the Ark. Because the Ark, if you are not a Levite, you can’t touch it.”

He added, “The Golden Stool of the Ashanti people, if you are not a royal, you can never carry it. That is one of the mysteries.”

The former Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) further stressed that anyone who is not affiliated with the Ashanti royal lineage should desist from interfering in matters concerning the stool.

Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II has stated that there is no iota of truth in the claim that a spiritual being can command things from the skies for them to materialise into the physical realm.

According to the Dormaahene, the Golden Stool of the Ashanti people, known as Sika Dwa Kofi, which is said to have been summoned down from the sky by the high priest Okomfo Anokye, appeared welded when it was displayed in public.

The Golden Stool looks welded; nobody can command anything from the skies – Dormaahene claims

He, therefore, cast doubt on the historical account of it being commanded from the sky.

Speaking during the launch of the Bonokyempem Council in the Bono Region on August 14, 2025, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, known in legal circles as Justice Daniel Mensah and currently serving as a High Court Judge, stated, “If anyone tells you they can summon something to descend from the sky, I, Agyeman Badu II, am saying it is a lie.”

“Didn’t you see when the Golden Stool was recently outdoored, it looked welded? Didn’t you see?” he questioned.

Meanwhile, according to history, the Golden Stool is said to have descended in a cloud of white dust, amidst thunder and landed on the lap of the first Asante king, Osei Tutu I, by the command of the Okomfo Anokye, a fetish priest.

Dormaahene, on the other hand, has been an astute critic of historical narratives, especially those he has described as distorted facts in the country’s history.
