The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has thrown his full weight behind Black Stars forward, Antoine Semenyo after the striker was subjected to racial abuse during Bournemouth’s Premier League opener against Liverpool at Anfield, on Friday, August 15, 2025.

Describing the incident as “unacceptable and deeply regrettable,” Okraku stressed that racism and bigotry must never be tolerated in football or society.

Writing on Facebook, he praised Semenyo’s response both on and off the pitch.

“What inspires me most, however, is not the incident itself but Antoine’s remarkable response. In the face of provocation, he chose grace, dignity, and strength of character. On the pitch, he reminded the world of his brilliance with two goals. Off it, he reminded us of the true essence of football — respect, tolerance, and unity that transcend race, nationality, and background,” he posted.

The GFA also issued a statement condemning the abuse “in the strongest terms,” lauding the 24-year-old for handling the situation with courage and composure.

“Antoine not only showcased his exceptional talent on the pitch but also displayed extraordinary maturity and dignity off it. We stand with you, Antoine, and with all who carry the torch in the ongoing fight against racism,” the Association noted.

Both Okraku and the GFA assured Semenyo of the full support of the Ghanaian football family.

“We are proud of you, we stand with you, and we continue the fight against racism together. Football must always remain the unifying force that brings people from all walks of life together,” Okraku emphasised.
