What was supposed to be a normal TESCON election at the Apenteng Appiah Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) turned out to be a major setback for the Kennedy Agyapong Campaign, following their involvement in the election.

Normally, NPP students on campus put themselves forward for election to various executive positions, with a promise to advance the interest of the party.

However, this year’s election was different, as prior to the election, news on campus emerged that the Kennedy Campaign had a list of candidates for each executive position it was backing.

These executives were projected through the Kennedy Campaign as supporters of Kennedy Agyapong, and NPP students of the university were urged to vote for them.

In a viral video, Kennedy Agyapong himself was seen, prior to the election, lifting the hand of a candidate and urging the students to vote for the candidate, who contested for the Women’s Commissioner position.

However, the TESCON students refused Kennedy Agyapong’s call, and voted for their preferred candidate for the Women’s Commissioner position, as well as for the other positions.

Just as the Women’s Commissioner, the TESCON students massively rejected all candidates who were branded as “Kennedy candidates” and voted for students they believed would best advance the course of the NPP on campus, without being influenced by external pressure.

Meanwhile, some TESCON students of AAMUSTED have expressed disappointment over the involvement of Team Kennedy in their elections.

According to the students, TESCON elections on campus are always a family affair, with students voting to select some amongst them to lead the advancement of the NPP, for a common goal.

“We are one people with a common goal. What happened was unfortunate. To have high ranking officials of our party on campus campaigning for some candidates was really divisive,” one of the students said.

“Some of the candidates were portrayed as belonging to a certain camp and we were urged not to vote for them. I found that very divisive because we are all NPP members and this is a local students affairs to elect our own leaders. We are here and we know what we want and what will help out party. I am happy the results showed clearly that we cannot be manipulated,” another student said.

“We have made our choice and rejected external influence. And all of us here, TESCON members, including those who were not selected, will come together and work for our party,” the student added.
