Nigerian actor and filmmaker Nosa Rex has publicly apologised to Ghanaians following a heated video rant that sparked widespread criticism across social media platforms.
The controversy began on 12 August 2025 when Nosa Rex accused several Ghanaian television stations of broadcasting his latest film “Prince of Peace” without permission, just six hours after its YouTube release. In his initial video response, the Nollywood star launched into an angry tirade, hurling insults and curses at the alleged perpetrators.
The actor’s harsh words quickly went viral, drawing sharp criticism from both Ghanaians and Nigerians who felt his approach was inappropriate and disrespectful. Media personality Robert Klah was among those who publicly condemned Nosa Rex’s outburst, describing his behaviour as unprofessional.
Facing mounting pressure and backlash, Nosa Rex returned to social media to issue a heartfelt apology. He clarified that his words were never intended to insult the people of Ghana and expressed regret for the manner in which he handled the situation.
The incident highlights a growing concern within the film industry regarding unauthorised broadcasting of movies. This is not an isolated case, as other prominent Nollywood figures including Omoni Oboli, Bimbo Ademoye, and Ruth Kadiri have previously raised similar complaints about Ghanaian television stations.
Industry experts suggest that unauthorised broadcasting is significantly damaging the African film sector, discouraging investment in quality productions and undermining creators’ ability to profit from their work. The practice affects both emerging and established filmmakers who rely on legitimate distribution channels to recoup production costs.
Nosa Rex’s apology appears to be an attempt to mend relations with his Ghanaian audience whilst drawing attention to the serious issue of film piracy. The actor acknowledged that whilst his frustration was understandable, his method of expressing it was wrong.
The entertainment industry continues to grapple with piracy challenges, requiring better collaboration between content creators and television stations to establish proper licensing agreements and protect intellectual property rights.
