Teachers, parents applaud contestants’ dedication

Some teachers and parents of contestants in the 2025 Citi FM/Channel One TV Literacy Challenge have praised the commitment and determination of the Junior High School students competing in this year’s edition.

Speaking to Channel One TV at the British Council in Accra on Saturday, August 9, 2025, Abraham Ametepe, a supervisor from Southbridge Montessori School, said his school has made the competition a priority.

“In our school, we have a literacy club that focuses only on the competition. Every week, we meet to write essays, and then we assess them. We also go through the science practicals and test ourselves on general knowledge. Twice a term, we conduct quizzes to see who can qualify,” he explained.

From Wellspring School, teacher Millicent highlighted how enhanced preparation made a significant difference this year.

“We presented four learners this year. We tried last year, but we got the information late, so only one learner qualified for the top 50. This time, we prepared them well, and out of the 20 who attempted, four were picked,” she said.

Parents also expressed pride in the hard work of their wards. Gyamboe Atteh, whose daughter is participating for the second time, said the journey has been inspiring.

“I am a proud parent. This is our second time attempting. My daughter couldn’t make it to the top 10 last year, but I encouraged her to do more. This year, we hope she makes it. She has been doing extra classes aside from regular schoolwork and also engages in self-tuition,” he noted.

The 2025 Literacy Challenge aims to identify, test, and reward Ghana’s most outstanding Junior High School students through a series of competitive stages, with the ultimate winner taking home GH¢10,000 and a trophy.

The Literacy Challenge is powered by Citi FM, supported by Channel One TV, and proudly sponsored by BEL MOOO and GB Assessment.
