The entire nation has been plunged into mourning following the untimely death of eight individuals in a tragic helicopter crash in the early hours of Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

The incident, which claimed the lives of several government officials and crew members, has left Ghanaians devastated. Many took to social media to express their heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims.

While some expressed shock at the heart-wrenching tragedy, others shared personal memories of the deceased and offered prayers for their souls to rest in peace.

Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, commenting on the tragedy via his official X page, said, “The fallen men paid the ultimate price in the service of our motherland, leaving a shocked nation in pain.”

“May the good Lord grant the bereaved families, the Government, and the people of Ghana strength and healing in this time of tragedy,” he added.

The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Emelia Arthur, also paid tribute to Dr Omane Boamah on X, writing, “Farewell, my brother. I will remember the specific conversation we had forever.”

Another user posted, “Flying Officer Twum Ampadu, who tragically lost his life in the gory helicopter crash, was recently hailed as one of Ghana’s finest pilots.”

Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, in a tribute to Murtala Mohammed, said, “Your contributions have significantly shaped our path, Great Comrade. Your commendable efforts have created a legacy that not only inspires but also provides a strong foundation for uplifting our nation as we move forward. May Allah have mercy on your soul.”

Another user wrote, “May this beautiful family rest in peace… Beyond tragic. Incidents like this should never happen.”

The crash of the Z-9 helicopter, which belonged to the Ghana Armed Forces, claimed the lives of Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah and Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.

Other victims included Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, former Central Regional Minister Samuel Sarpong, and Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate.

Members of the helicopter crew who also perished in the crash were Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Malin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
