Banking industry mourns victims of tragic helicopter crash

Ghana’s banking sector is joining the rest of the nation in mourning the devastating loss of eight lives, including two Cabinet Ministers in a military helicopter crash that occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

In a solemn statement, the Ghana Association of Banks (GAB) extended its condolences to the bereaved families, the Government of Ghana, and all institutions affected by what it described as a “national tragedy.”

The victims included Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, and Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, both of whom were widely regarded for their contributions to public service and national development.

“The Ghanaian banking industry stands with the nation in mourning the tragic loss of distinguished public servants and professionals,” the Association said in its tribute.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families, the Government of Ghana, and all institutions affected by this national tragedy. May their souls rest in perfect peace.”

The tragedy has cast a shadow over both the public and private sectors, with scheduled national events postponed in observance of the period of mourning.
