‘Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu’s Attacks On Agyapong Linked To Vice-Presidential Hopes’ – Owusu Bempah

Ernest Owusu Bempah, Deputy National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has sharply criticized former Suame MP, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, calling him the “worst legislator” in the party’s history as reported by Ghana Web.

Bempah, a known supporter of NPP flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong, made these comments in response to Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu’s recent remarks about “fancy talkers” within the party.

The former Majority Leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs had advised NPP delegates not to be swayed by rhetoric, which some have interpreted as a veiled jab at Agyapong.

Although Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu later clarified on JoyNews’ PM Express that his comments were not directed at Agyapong, the latter’s camp has since taken issue with the statement.

On Kumasi-based Oyerepa TV, Bempah claimed that Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu’s attacks on Agyapong stemmed from an alleged promise of the vice-presidential slot.

He also criticized Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu’s lack of grassroots support, asserting, “He has no popularity at the grassroots level of the party.”

Bempah further pointed out the NPP’s near loss of the Suame seat in 2016, emphasizing that it was the intervention of the NDC and Alban Bagbin that helped secure the victory.

Bempah contended that Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu had not contributed significantly to his constituency, adding, “If he’s even passing, nobody in the NPP would recognize him.”
