President John Dramani Mahama, Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, and numerous government officials gathered on Friday at the State House forecourt to honour the memory of the late Joseph Kobina Ade-Coker, former Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The ceremony, filled with emotion and solemn reflection, brought together party members, family, friends, and sympathizers who came to bid farewell to a man widely regarded as a cornerstone of the NDC and a dedicated advocate for Ghana’s democratic progress.
Ade-Coker, who passed away in June 2025, was celebrated for his steadfast commitment to the party and his leadership in strengthening its presence in the Greater Accra Region.
His body, lying in state and adorned with the national colours, symbolized his service to both party and country.
Tributes flowed from numerous speakers, including President Mahama, who praised Ade-Coker as a unifier, strategist, and true statesman.
“Joseph Ade-Coker was not just a political leader — he was a brother, a mentor, and a visionary whose contributions to Ghana’s democracy were immense,” Mahama said.
Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang also paid tribute, acknowledging his dedication to mentorship and his passion for empowering young people.
The event was attended by former and current ministers, regional leaders, Members of Parliament, and grassroots supporters, all sharing heartfelt memories of Ade-Coker’s leadership and impact.
As the casket was taken for burial, many mourners broke into tears, visibly moved by the loss of a man who had touched so many lives.
While he may be gone, Ade-Coker’s legacy endures in the many lives he influenced and the political ideals he championed.
