Ghanaian highlife musician Kwabena Kwabena has reaffirmed the late legend Daddy Lumba’s enduring stance on the genre’s resilience.

Speaking after a candlelight vigil honoring Daddy Lumba, Kwabena Kwabena recalled the iconic artist’s declaration at the 2003 Ghana Music Awards that “highlife will never die.”

He emphasized that highlife remains intrinsically Ghanaian—crafted by, for, and about the people of Ghana. The vigil, attended by fans and peers, served as both a memorial and a celebration of Daddy Lumba’s influence on the nation’s musical heritage.

Kwabena Kwabena described Daddy Lumba as an eternal legend whose artistic legacy secures highlife’s permanence in Ghanaian culture. His remarks underscored a collective commitment within the industry to preserve the genre’s authenticity.

“He is a legend forever. Just as Daddy Lumba said, highlife will never die. Rest in Peace, Legend,” Kwabena Kwabena stated, mirroring the sentiment that has defined generations of Ghanaian musicians. The tribute highlighted music’s role in uniting communities amid loss.
