Kennedy Agyapong, former MP for Assin Central
Former MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has challenged Ghanaians to hand him power for eight years and he will break, what he termed as the unmatched record of Ghana’s first president Dr Kwame Nkrumah.
Speaking to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) impending presidential primary on Talk Time with Kwesi Pratt on Pan African TV on August 2, 2025, he stated that he’s got his eyes on the presidential seat, that is why he is contesting the NPP presidential primary.
“You see, I have role models and these role models are pragmatists. When you look at the infrastructural framework of this country, nearly 60% of them were done by President Kwame Nkrumah in just 9 years of his rule. That is from 1957-1966 and up to now, we have not been able to match what he did.
“I go round the country and I see the things he achieved, so he is my role model. If there’s a president whose record I want to beat, its Dr Kwame Nkrumah. When you give me 8 years, I will beat his record,” the maverick politician said.
To further expatiate his assertion, Kennedy Agyapong stated that the reason why he wants to be president is because Ghana needs a selfless, bold, decisive and pragmatic leader.
He condemned the sloganeering approach by subsequent governments which has not yielded any results over the years.
“Enough is enough of the theories. We have been propounding theories that we’re going to do this, we’re going to do that, and I feel that first, we’re are not on top of the game, because we’re not brilliant on the basics,” he said.
He shared his experience about his interaction with some youth who were into mango and coconut cultivation and how they didn’t know the other ways they could harness the crop they were producing.
He explained that Ghanaians are not brilliant on the basics because, most youth are clueless about the myriad benefits that can be accrued from processing a lot of regular cash crops like corn, plantain, cassava, coconuts, mangoes etc.
He noted that the macro and micro economic figures being churned out in the news are far-fetched and it is about time Ghanaians explored low hanging fruits to solve its basic needs as the fundamentals of the economy are currently weak.
