Thousands of mourners converged at Independence Square in Accra on Saturday night, August 2, for a candlelight vigil held in honour of the late legendary highlife musician, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba.
The emotional event drew fans, fellow musicians, dignitaries, and members of the public who gathered to pay tribute to the late music icon, whose passing has sparked nationwide grief and reflection.
Clad mostly in black, participants held lit candles, sang along to Daddy Lumba’s timeless hits, and shared memories of his impact on Ghana’s music scene. The vigil formed part of a series of events to celebrate the life and legacy of one of Ghana’s most influential and beloved artists.
Speakers at the event hailed Daddy Lumba for his decades-long contribution to Ghanaian music, describing him as a cultural pillar whose songs will continue to inspire generations.

The candlelight vigil follows visits by individuals, institutions, including media houses like Citi FM and Channel One TV, to commiserate with the bereaved family.

Tributes continue to pour in from across the country and beyond as fans mourn the loss of a true music legend.
