The Police Special Anti-Galamsey Team has impounded three excavators during an intelligence-led operation in response to reports of illegal mining activities at Manso Atobrakrom in the Ashanti Region.
The operation, which took place on Monday, July 29, forms part of ongoing efforts by the police to clamp down on activities that pose serious environmental and security threats.
According to a police statement, the illegal miners fled into a nearby bush upon spotting the police team, abandoning the machinery used in their operations.
“In response to reports of illegal mining activities at Manso Atobrakrom in the Ashanti Region, the team carried out an intelligence-led operation on Monday, 29th July 2025, leading to the seizure of three excavators used in illegal mining activities,” the statement read.
The police assured the public of their commitment to combating illegal mining, also known as galamsey, and urged community members to report suspicious activities to aid ongoing enforcement operations.
