Parliament goes on recess

Ghana’s Parliament has officially gone on recess after concluding its business for the Second Meeting of the First Session of the ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic.

The recess, which took effect Friday, August 1, 2025, follows weeks of intense legislative work, including the passage of several key bills, approval of agreements, and debates on matters of national importance.

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban S.K. Bagbin, in his closing remarks, read on his behalf by 1st Deputy Speaker Bernard Ahiafor, commended Members of Parliament (MPs) for their dedication despite the extended sittings and occasional disagreements on the floor.

He urged MPs to continue engaging with their constituents during the break and to return refreshed for the next session.

While on recess, Parliamentary Committees may still convene if urgent matters arise. The House is expected to reconvene in October 2025.

“As we rise today, let us remember that recess is not a vacation. it is a return to the people we represent. I urge all honourable members to use this period to reconnect with constituents, undertake field oversights, and deepen Parliamentary democracy. Let us embrace our responsibilities with renewed purpose and conviction.”
