OSP clarifies GACL MD not under investigation in SML contract probe

Sammy Darko Appiah, Director of Strategy, Research and Communication at the OSP, has clarified that the Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, is not a person of interest in the ongoing investigations into the controversial revenue assurance contract involving Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd (SML).

Appiah made this known during an interview on TV3’s New Day on Friday, August 1, 2025.

“I do not even understand why the Managing Director’s name is being bandied around by a particular group of people. The fact that he [Adom-Otchere] mentioned somebody’s name does not mean that the person may be a subject of investigation. That’s him trying to defend himself,” he said.

He emphasised that while the MD is not currently under scrutiny, she could be called in if necessary.

“If it means that the MD of the company has to answer, the MD of the company will answer. But it is not up to the suspect to be determining, ‘why have you called this person, why haven’t you called that?’” he added.

At present, the OSP has identified only three individuals as suspects: former GACL Board Chair Paul Adom-Otchere, Otchere Kwame Baffour Awuah (Group Executive, Commercial Services), and Albert Adjetey Adjei-Laryea (CEO of Devnest Systems).

“When the office is thoroughly done and there are any other persons that the Office would want to place before the court, the office is going to do that,” Darko further added.

Adom-Otchere reported to the OSP on Thursday, July 31, 2025, and was granted bail after interrogation, but remains in custody after failing to meet the bail condition of providing two landed properties in his name.
