GSA pilots mobile app to help consumers verify electrical cable quality

Consumers of electrical cables in Ghana may soon find it easier to verify product quality before making a purchase. This follows the piloting of a new mobile application developed by the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), designed to assess the quality of cables produced by local manufacturers.

Speaking at the launch of the Ghana Digital Conformity Pilot Project in Accra, the Board Chairman of the GSA, Hudu Mogtari, explained that the initiative aims to protect consumers from substandard electrical cables currently circulating on the market.

“The proliferation of counterfeit products and inconsistent compliance levels continues to pose a serious threat. Today, we draw a line in the sand. Through this pilot project, we are revolutionizing how we certify, track, and authenticate products across Ghana’s markets—starting with electrical cables, a key component of our infrastructure and public safety,” he said.

Representing the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, the Chief Commercial Manager at the Ministry, Kofi Addo, emphasized that the project will help eliminate unfair competition among stakeholders and promote consumer safety in the electrical cable industry.
