The Volta Hotel is owned by Akosombo Hotels Ltd
Management of Akosombo Hotels Ltd (AHL) has reacted to publications that its Volta Hotel, Akosombo, had failed to meet requirements for 3-star hotel rating over mismanagement and bad leadership.
“The claim that AHL’s three-star rating has been revoked is inaccurate,” AHL asserted in a statement issued by management and dated July 31, 2025.
While AHL seemed to concede Volta Hotel’s retention of its 3-star rating was yet to be decided by the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) after an initial inspection, it noted, “Over 80% of these recommendations have been implemented pending re-inspection by GTA.”

RESPONSE TO ALLEGATIONS OF MISMANAGEMENT AND POOR LEADERSHIP AT AKOSOMBO HOTELS (AHL)
The attention of management of Akosombo Hotels Ltd (AHL) has been drawn to a media publication on classfmonline.com titled “Volta Hotel fails to meet requirement for 3-star hotel over mismanagement and bad leadership,” which has been replicated on media aggregation platforms alleging mismanagement and poor leadership at Akosombo Hotels Ltd (AHL).
We wish to respond to the claims as follows:
AHL three-star rating
The claim that AHL’s three-star rating has been revoked is inaccurate. Following a recent inspection by the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), management was provided with a list of areas to improve to retain the rating. Over 80% of these recommendations have been implemented pending re-inspection by GTA.
Despite financial constraints and operational challenges, management continues to invest a significant portion of the hotel’s revenue into facility maintenance while offering top customer service.
Allegations of project mismanagement
In the said publication, five specific projects were cited in the group of concerned staff’s claims. These are the facts on these projects:
Swimming Pool
The facility has faced infrastructure challenges, and repairs are being done in phases due to cash flow limitations.
Container Refrigeration
This system had not undergone major servicing since installation. A non-functioning motor and compressor were replaced, but further checks necessitated the installation of a new compressor and upgraded electrical components, which is now fully operational.
Cold-Rooms
The kitchen cold-rooms have been retrofitted with modern, digitised systems to replace outdated analogue setups. Despite initial setbacks, these units are now functioning effectively.
Vehicle Leasing
The vehicle leasing arrangement mentioned has been in place for over four years and is fully transparent, with no evidence of impropriety.
Drainage Works
The drainage works referenced were conducted in-house through collaboration between the maintenance and finance departments. Due to financial constraints, a cost-effective approach was adopted to resolve the issue.
Despite the false allegations of these “concerned staff,” management has remained focused to facilitate the completion of the Nunya Rooms Expansion Project, fully renovate the Organisation Conference Room, as well as the hotel’s main washrooms.
Works are ongoing for upgrades of the other hotel rooms, while plans are underway to renovate the hotel’s laundry facility. These initiatives reflect management’s commitment to preserve the AHL brand and maintain its three-star status.
Conclusion
Management of AHL remains fully committed to the long-term success of the hotel and continues to offer the best hospitality service for its clients and would-be customers. Management is also committed to offering avenues for dialogue and fostering good work relations. However, AHL maintains zero tolerance for smear campaigns and actions aimed at tarnishing the hard-earned reputation of Akosombo Hotels Ltd.
We also advise management of classfmonline.com and other social media handles to be circumspect in their reportage and eschew the practice of publishing malicious, false stories which seek to destroy indigenous Ghanaian business brands like AHL. Volta Hotel remains your haven of comfort, hospitality, and natural beauty in Ghana.
Signed,
Management
